Remote viewing of your CCTV Environment
Remote viewing of your cctv environment is a simple process provided you have a clear understanding of how it
works - and you have installed the correct equipment.
It is essential that you install a Digital Video Recording System that will support remote viewing.
The technology is referred to as Video Streaming. Digital images are captured on the DVR. These video images are
compressed into packets of information, pushed by a modem or router along a telephone line or via a wireless link
to the remote destination where it is collected by a second modem or router, reconverted to video and viewed on the
remote pc.
Several elements need to be considered.
Speed of signal. This depends on the bandwidth of the telephone or wireless connection, and on the amount of
information that can be packed into each packet.
- Telephone connections range from 56k analog to 1032k broadband (adsl etc). The bigger the connection the
quicker the information can travel - so transfer speed is increased and the video picture at the remote pc
becomes more smooth.
- The amount of information in each packet depends on the compression hardware and software in the DVR. The
more effective this technology, the more information can be squeezed into each packet. This helps to make the
video at the remote pc even more fluid.
Analog viewing is adequate if snapshots are all that's needed. But if live movement is necessary then broadband
is essential. Broadband brings it's own challenged regarding IP addresses and router configuration.
Eidolon Technology has effective solutions to these challenges. Each project has it's own circumstances and
more detail on remote viewing is outlined in each individual project plan.
